Support for Ordinary Life
Mental illness rarely takes away someone's ability to know what they want. What it takes away is the ability to do the ordinary things reliably, and it is the ordinary things that keep a person well. Eating properly. Sleeping in some sort of pattern. Taking medication. Opening the post. Leaving the house.
Our support is practical rather than therapeutic. We are not a clinical mental health service and we do not replace a care coordinator, a psychiatrist or a therapist. We work alongside them, doing the daily work that holds a week together while the clinical team does theirs.
Support can be a couple of hours a week or several hours a day, at home or out in the community, and it is designed to reduce as things improve.
What Support Can Cover
Routine and daily structure
Getting up, planning the day, meals, sleep patterns and the small habits that hold a week together when motivation is low.
Medication and appointments
Prompting or administering prescribed medication, tracking how it is going, and getting to appointments with the GP, the community mental health team or the hospital.
Home and practical life
Shopping, cooking, cleaning, laundry, managing post and bills, and dealing with the things that pile up and become overwhelming.
Confidence and connection
Getting back out, using transport, returning to work, college or a group, and keeping the relationships that isolation quietly erodes.
How We Work
Trust is the whole job here. Someone who has been let down by services before will not be won over by a well-written care plan, so we keep teams small, turn up when we say we will and do not rotate people without warning.
Support is agreed with the person, not decided about them. That includes what they want help with, what they would prefer we leave alone, and how they want us to respond on a bad day. We write that down and we follow it.
We also work to a shared understanding of what going downhill looks like for that particular person, and who we contact if we see it. Our carers escalate to our nursing team the same day, and on to the care coordinator or crisis team where that is the agreed plan.
Every support worker is fully referenced, DBS checked and trained to the Care Certificate before working alone.

Getting Started
Get in touch
Call 01420 551309 or send an enquiry. The person themselves, a family member or a professional can all make contact.
We meet, at the person's pace
The first meeting is a conversation, not an interrogation. Somebody can be present if that helps.
Support is agreed together
What we help with, what we leave alone, and what to do on a difficult day. Written down and followed.
Support begins, and adjusts
We review regularly and reduce hours as things improve, rather than keeping them because they are commissioned.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is this therapy or counselling?
No. We provide practical daily support. Therapy, medication reviews and clinical treatment come from your GP or mental health team, and we work alongside them.
Which conditions do you support?
We support people, not diagnoses, and we assess each situation individually. Tell us what daily life looks like at the moment and we will be honest about whether we can help.
Will I have the same support worker?
Wherever possible, yes. Consistency matters more on this service than almost any other, and we do not change people without telling you first.
Do you work with my care coordinator?
Yes, and we would want to, with your consent. We agree in advance who we contact and when.
What happens on a bad day?
Whatever we agreed together. That plan is written with you while you are well, so nobody is improvising when things are hard.
Can support be reduced later?
Yes, and that is the aim. Support that never steps back is not recovery-focused.
