Care That Does Not Stop at Bedtime
24 hour care means there is always a carer awake and on duty, day and night. Rather than one person living in and sleeping overnight, a small team works in shifts so that someone is alert at three in the morning as well as three in the afternoon.
Families usually reach this point for one of two reasons. Either health needs have become continuous, with regular repositioning, medication or clinical support required through the night, or the nights themselves have become the problem, through falls, wandering, distress or simply the fear of what might happen while everyone is asleep.
It is the highest level of support we deliver at home, and it is a genuine alternative to a nursing home for many people. Every package is assessed and overseen by our nursing team.
24 Hour Care Might Be Right If
- Support is needed several times through the night, not just occasionally
- Regular repositioning is required to protect skin integrity
- Dementia is causing night-time waking, wandering or distress
- Two carers are needed for safe moving and handling
- A family carer is awake most nights and can no longer continue
- Discharge from hospital requires continuous care that live-in support could not safely cover
If the nights are mostly settled and support is only needed occasionally, live-in care is usually the better and more affordable option. We will tell you honestly which one fits.
What 24 Hour Care Provides
Through the night
A waking carer on duty, regular checks, repositioning, continence and toileting support, help to the bathroom, reassurance during distress or confusion and a full handover each morning.
Personal care
Bathing, washing, dressing, toileting, continence support, help with mobility, transfers and getting in and out of bed, with two carers where the assessment requires it.
Health and medication
Medication administration, monitoring for changes in condition, catheter and stoma support, working alongside GPs and district nurses, and same day escalation to our nursing team.
Home and daily life
Meal preparation and special diets, laundry, household tasks, shopping, appointments, company and conversation across the whole day.
How We Build the Rota
24 hour care depends on a rota that actually holds. We build each one around a small, named team rather than whoever is available that week, because a person waking confused at two in the morning should see a face they recognise.
Shifts are structured so that no carer is ever working beyond safe hours, and every handover is done in person with written notes so nothing is lost between shifts. Where two carers are needed for moving and handling, both are trained on that specific person's equipment before the package begins.
Every carer is fully referenced, DBS checked and trained to the Care Certificate, with additional training for the particular needs of the person they support. Behind the team sits our nursing team and an office staffed by an experienced member of staff 24 hours a day, so there is always someone to call.

Not sure which applies? That is exactly what the free assessment is for.
Getting Started
Talk to us
Call 01420 551309 at any hour. Our office is staffed through the night, so you are not waiting until Monday morning.
Free assessment at home
Our clinical team visits, meets the person needing care and assesses moving and handling, night-time needs and equipment.
Team and rota agreed
We build the carer team, confirm the shift pattern and agree all costs in writing before anything begins.
Care begins, and is reviewed
We review regularly and adjust the package as needs change, in either direction.
Paying for 24 Hour Care
Continuous care is the most staff-intensive service we provide, and funding support is more often available at this level of need than families expect.
NHS funded care
Continuing Healthcare, Funded Nursing Care and Section 117 aftercare frequently apply where needs are continuous and clinical. We can help you understand whether the criteria are likely to be met.
Local authority and direct payments
Hampshire County Council may contribute after a needs and financial assessment, and direct payments let you choose your own provider.
Self-funding
A written rate sheet is provided before care begins, with at least thirty days notice of any change.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is the night carer actually awake?
Yes. That is the defining difference between 24 hour care and live-in care. The night carer is on a waking shift, not sleeping in.
How many carers will we see?
As few as the rota safely allows. We build a small named team so the same faces return, particularly on nights.
Can you provide two carers at once?
Yes, where the assessment identifies it is needed for safe moving and handling.
Do we need to provide a bedroom?
No. Carers work shifts and do not sleep in the home, so no spare room is needed.
Can you take over from a family carer who is exhausted?
Yes, and often quickly. Tell us what the nights currently look like and we will be straight with you about what we can put in place and how soon.
How quickly can care start?
Sometimes the same day for urgent needs or a late hospital discharge, though a full team usually takes a few days to build properly. Call and we will tell you honestly.
