Accessibility Statement

Our commitment

A great many of the people who use this site are older, are living with a disability, or are reading it on a phone at a difficult moment. Accessibility is not a compliance exercise for us, it is the basic condition of the site being useful.

We aim to meet WCAG 2.2 level AA. On the pages about dementia, learning disability, mental health and palliative care we have deliberately gone further, because the people those pages are about read them too.

What we have done

• Body text at 17px or larger, with generous line spacing, and the whole site can be zoomed to 200 per cent without losing content
• Text and background colours checked against WCAG contrast requirements. Our brand green is used for large text, icons and borders, and a darker green is used wherever green text appears at body size
• Every page has a skip to content link, visible focus outlines and tap targets of at least 44 by 44 pixels
• Form labels are always visible, never placeholder only. Errors are described in words, linked to the field they belong to and announced to screen readers
• Accordions use native HTML elements, so they work with the keyboard and with find on page
• Every image has alternative text, and decorative graphics are hidden from screen readers
• All movement respects the reduced motion setting on your device. If you have that switched on, animations are replaced with a simple fade
• The site works without JavaScript. Content that would normally fade in as you scroll is shown immediately instead
• No content moves, flashes or advances on a timer, except the testimonial carousel on the home page, which can be paused and stops automatically if you have reduced motion switched on

Known limitations

We would rather tell you what is not right yet than claim the site is perfect.

• The map on our contact page is provided by Google. We have given it a descriptive title, and the full address always appears as text nearby so the map is never the only way to get it, but we do not control what is inside it.
• Some documents we send, such as care plans and rate sheets, are not yet available in accessible formats as standard. Ask us and we will provide them in large print, easy read or another format.

Telling us about a problem

If something on this site does not work for you, we want to know. Contact us on 01420 551309 or at admin@kariscareservices.co.uk and tell us what page you were on and what happened. We will reply within five working days and tell you what we are going to do about it.

How we tested

This site was tested during development at screen widths from 320 to 1920 pixels, with a keyboard alone, with scripting disabled, and with the reduced motion setting switched on. Colour contrast was checked against WCAG 2.2 AA thresholds.
