Who Pays for Care at Home
Most families are surprised by how many routes exist, and by how many they were never told about. Here they all are. We can help you work out which apply, and that advice does not depend on you choosing us.
Self-funding
You arrange and pay for care directly. What it costs depends on the hours per week, the level of care and where you are. You receive a written rate sheet before care begins, we invoice after services are delivered, and we give at least thirty days notice of any rate change. You never pay a carer directly.
Who it applies to: Anyone, and the most common route where savings or property put someone above the local authority threshold.
Hampshire County Council funded care
The council assesses what care you need, then assesses what you can afford to contribute. If you qualify, they fund all or part of the package. Ask adult social care for a Care Act needs assessment. It is free and anyone can request one, including on behalf of a relative.
Who it applies to: Where savings and assets fall below the threshold set by the council.
Direct payments
If the council funds your care, you can take the money as a direct payment and choose your own provider rather than accepting the one they allocate. We are happy to be that choice, and we can talk you through how it works.
Who it applies to: Anyone with council-funded care who wants to choose their provider.
NHS Continuing Healthcare
Where someone's needs are primarily health related rather than social, the NHS may fund the entire package, including care at home. It is not means tested. Assessment is through the ICB, and a GP, district nurse, hospital team or social worker can start it.
Who it applies to: Complex, intense or unpredictable health needs. Most often relevant to our complex care and 24 hour clients.
CHC Fast Track
Where someone has a rapidly deteriorating condition and may be approaching the end of life, a clinician can complete a Fast Track application. It is designed to be quick, often decided within days, and it can fund a full package at home. Many families are never told it exists.
Who it applies to: End of life and rapidly deteriorating conditions.
NHS Funded Nursing Care
A contribution towards the nursing element of care where someone has been assessed as needing it but does not qualify for full Continuing Healthcare.
Who it applies to: Assessed nursing need without full CHC eligibility.
Section 117 aftercare
Where someone has been detained under Section 3 or certain other sections of the Mental Health Act, they are entitled to free aftercare under Section 117. It is not means tested and it must not be charged for.
Who it applies to: Following detention under the relevant sections of the Mental Health Act.
Attendance Allowance and other benefits
Attendance Allowance is not means tested and is not affected by savings or income. A great many people who qualify never claim it. Personal Independence Payment applies below state pension age, and Carer's Allowance may be available to a family carer.
Who it applies to: Worth checking early, whatever else applies.
How We Charge
What care costs depends on three things: how many hours a week you need, the level of care involved and where you are. We would rather give you a real figure for your situation than a headline rate that turns out not to apply.
You receive a written rate sheet before care begins. We invoice after services have been delivered, never in advance, and you never pay a carer directly. If our rates change we give you at least thirty days notice.
The assessment is free whether or not you go ahead, and there is no long-term contract at any point.

Common Questions
How much does home care cost?
It depends on the hours per week, the level of care needed and where you are. We give you a written rate sheet before care begins so there are no surprises, and we give at least thirty days notice of any change. Call us and we can give you a realistic idea on the phone.
Do you charge for the assessment?
No. The assessment is free whether or not you go on to arrange care with us.
Am I tied into a contract?
No. You can increase, reduce or stop your care as circumstances change, subject only to the notice terms in your care agreement.
Can you help us work out which funding route applies?
Yes. We are not financial advisers, but we deal with these routes every week and we can tell you which are worth pursuing and who to contact to start them. That advice is free and it does not depend on you choosing us.
Do you accept direct payments and council funded packages?
Yes. Call us and tell us how the care is being funded, and we will tell you honestly whether we can work with that arrangement.
How do we pay?
We invoice after services have been delivered. You never pay a carer directly.
