The Part Nobody Wants to Talk About
Most families put off arranging personal care longer than any other kind. It is one thing to accept help with the shopping. It is quite another to accept a stranger helping with a bath.
We understand that, and we do not pretend it away. What we can tell you is that the discomfort almost always belongs to the first week rather than the arrangement. Once someone has met their carer, once the routine settles and once they discover that nothing is rushed and nothing is made awkward, the relief tends to outweigh the embarrassment very quickly.
Personal care is what most of our work has been since 2013, from a single short visit each morning to several visits a day. Every package is assessed and overseen by our nursing team.
What We Can Help With
- Bathing, showering and washing
- Dressing and undressing
- Toileting and continence support
- Personal hygiene, including oral care, shaving and grooming
- Help with mobility, transfers and positioning
- Getting in and out of bed, morning and night
- Medication administration, prompting and monitoring
- Meal preparation, special diets and support with eating
- Household cleaning, laundry and changing bedding
- Shopping, collecting prescriptions and collecting pensions
- Company, conversation, reading and recreational activities
- Support to attend appointments and get out of the house
Nothing here is compulsory. Your care plan includes only what you actually want help with, and it changes as your needs change.
How Visits Work
Morning calls
Help to get up, washed, dressed and ready, with breakfast and morning medication. For many people this single visit is what makes the rest of the day possible.
Daytime calls
A check-in through the day for lunch, medication, mobility or company, and a chance to notice anything that has changed.
Evening calls
Help with an evening meal, getting ready for bed, medication and settling safely for the night.
Night support
Where the nights are the difficult part, we can arrange a night sitting service, live-in care or full 24 hour cover with a waking carer.
How We Protect Dignity
Dignity is not a value we put on a wall. On this service it is a set of specific habits, and we train and supervise against them.
Carers ask before they act, explain what they are about to do and wait for agreement. They keep someone covered wherever possible rather than exposed for convenience. They close doors and curtains without being asked. They talk with the person, not over them, and never about them to someone else in the room. They work at the pace of the person in front of them rather than the pace of the schedule.
You choose your carer, and you can ask for a male or female carer according to what you are comfortable with.
Every carer is fully referenced, DBS checked and trained to the Care Certificate before working alone, with supervision and spot checks in the field afterwards.

You Will Know Every Visit Happened
Missed and shortened calls are the most common complaint families have about home care, particularly where they live too far away to check.
Our carers log in when they arrive and log out when they leave, using an app that records the actual start and finish of every visit. Our registered manager and care coordinators can see the schedule as it happens, which means a missed call is spotted and covered rather than discovered afterwards.
It also means that when you ask us how your father's week has gone, the answer comes from a record rather than a recollection.
Getting Started
Talk to us
Call 01420 551309 and tell us what is becoming difficult. There is no obligation and no pressure.
Free assessment at home
We visit at a time that suits you, meet the person needing care and agree exactly what help is wanted and what is not.
Your care plan and carers
We write the plan, agree the costs in advance and introduce your carers before the first visit.
Care begins, and is reviewed
Visits start, we check how the first week has gone and we adjust anything that is not right.
Paying for Personal Care
Self-funding
You arrange and pay directly. We provide a written rate sheet before care begins, invoice after services are delivered and give at least thirty days notice of any change. You never pay a carer directly.
Local authority and direct payments
Hampshire County Council may contribute after a needs and financial assessment. Direct payments let you choose your own provider. Attendance Allowance is not means tested and is worth applying for early.
NHS funded care
Continuing Healthcare and Funded Nursing Care may apply where needs are primarily health related.
Frequently Asked Questions
My father is embarrassed and says he does not want a stranger washing him. What can we do?
Start smaller. Many people begin with help around the house or with dressing, and move on to bathing once the carer is someone they know rather than a stranger. We never force a task, and we can arrange a male carer if that helps.
Can we ask for a male or female carer?
Yes. Tell us at the assessment and we will match accordingly.
Will it be the same carer each time?
That is always our aim. Where visits cover many hours or span the week, a small team may be needed, and we keep it as consistent as we can.
What if we do not get on with a carer?
Tell us and we will change them, with no awkwardness and no explanation needed. We would rather hear early.
Can visits change as needs change?
Yes, in either direction. You can increase, reduce or stop your care as circumstances change, subject only to the notice in your care agreement.
Do we need a doctor's referral?
No. Contact us directly and choose the services you want, when you want them to start.
